How much do you save a month?

Just wondering.. I asked the question before about how people saved money. I got some really great answers! So thanks ladies =]

In some of the answers, people said to pay yourself first. My new question is how much do you pay yourself usually?

  • We save $100/month right now and put the rest toward paying off our debt and $225 into a fund for buying another car. Once that debt is paid off we'll be able to contribute over $300 a month to savings. When we have 3 to 6 months in savings, we'll split that $300 or so between our 401k and kids' education funds. Doesn't sound like a lot, but we live on a below-poverty-level income and I think we're doing pretty good.

  • Sorry.. missed Typo.. Must start

A percentage of our income goes into savings every month. That percentage is split up between: 1savings accounts, 2 investment acounts, 2 retirement account and our son's college fund (which is in use right now)..

We have saved every month for $25 years. Even months $ 5 bucks to save, we saved it.. We just picked one area to put the money during those times.
