Nail polish question. I'm stupid tonight lol. Do all top coats double as base coats?

  • Im not sure, lol. I usually buy the one that says base & top coat on the bottle, lol.

  • Yes, they do. I just use a top coat though, it seems to do it's job. When I do a base coat it makes my polish look different to me, not as smooth looking.

  • my understanding - and this comes from my guy who does my nails (fills them in) every two weeks - that they are two completely different products - one gets your nails ready for the polish and the other "sets" the polish after your nails have been polished - i asked him the same question...

  • I don't like them myself. I prefer a base coat separate from the top coat unless I"m doing a straight clear coat on my nails.

  • Ok, how about just clear polish? Is the only purpose of it to make your nails shiny? Or can it be used as a top and base coat?
