  • muffins sometimes have fruit mixed in the batter...blueberry...banana...strawberry...etc.
    cupcakes use cake batter and usually have frosting on them.

  • Muffins use less leavening, so are more dense than a traditional cupcake. The texture is much finer in a cupcake as well, due to the ratio of liquid to solid in the batter.
