First off, I just want to make one suggestion for those who can't afford any presents...if you have little kids, go to toys for tots or local churches, they usually have toys they can give to you. And try www.freecycle.org, it's a great site where people advertise things they are giving away, they normally have one for most of the bigger cities.
We are going to have to spend less this year. I am making homemade blankets for my kids and also for my nieces and nephew, and we will be baking gifts for our friends and neighbors. DH and I don't buy anything for each other, so there's nothing to save there. And I always always do 90% of my shopping on Black Friday. The BX on base usually does a thing on Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and then that Saturday where they give $20 gift cards to the first 100 people in line, and I"m there daily at 2am lol. I get $60-$80 in free gift cards every year. Also, we make our own decorations.
