  • In 1867, Justus von Liebig developed the world's first commercial infant formula, Liebig's Soluble Food for Babies. The success of this product quickly gave rise to competitors such as Mellin's Infant Food, Ridge's Food for Infants and Nestle's Milk.

  • My dog had a litter of puppies. She had milk and wanted to nurse them. I had one puppy that couldn't suck because it had a cleft palate, and one puppy that was too small to latch on for about a week. Should I have let them die? No. I supplemented them. I bought puppy formula and tube fed the one with the cleft palate and bottle fed the other until it was able to latch on.
As with the puppies, not everyone is born perfect. I breastfeed my son because I can and it works with me and my lifestyle, but there are situations that call for formula and supplementation.

  • Actually, that guy was not a life saver..his formula killed babies...I would save that title for the formula newcomers(Enfamil and such). LOL

  • Ya'know there are women who cannot create milk and in this day and age there are not any milkmaids so to speak so why bash formula, sure it is not the best but without it my kids would have had to drink regular milk and from that would not have thrived
