  • ABSOLUTELY NOT! :) They need the comfort & warmth of your body - your scent, your sounds... they need for everything to be as close to what it was like in the womb. Now when they're a couple of months old and you're loving on that baby so much that they're missing milestones like holding their head up from no tummy time, then you might be a hold-a-holic. :D

  • With a newborn, no you can never hold them too much... well OK if your arms are going numb from holding them too much maybe but otherwise no. When you hold that newborn you are giving them comfort and love you are creating a bond which will have lasting effects on your future relationship. Babies on the other end of the spectrum who do not get held have been shown to die from "failure to thrive". Humans need contact and love and that's what this time is all about. Enjoy it while it lasts because before you know it your newborn will be growing up and soon will not want you to hold them. Treasure your mommy baby time while it lasts. Now when they get to be about 4 months or older there is a fine line with being held too much but only if it bothers you that they want to be held all the time. It will be a decision for you to make on how much is too much later but for now just keep your little one in your arms.
