3 Bumps

My three year old son has been refering himself as the third person. For Example: "logan shut the door mom" Its not all the time but mainly when hes looking at himself. Hes never had any issues as far as health wise. Very smart maybe too smart for his own good. He recently started showing signs of OCD.. get very frustrated over little things like a piece of paper sticking out of a nice stack of paper..or putting things in order and even lining things up nice and neat. Hes also been throwing fits over small things as well and im not sure if its just me or normal 3 year old behavior. Should I be worried?

  • That all actually sounds like "Extremely smart" 3 y/o behavior. Kids that are super smart sometimes do those things.

  • Does mental illness run in your family?

  • It could be a phase, but should it worsen I'd take him for a check up with his pediatrician. He does sound like a smart little boy to me. I'm wondering if you or his dad are perfectionists, an apple doesn't fall far from the

  • I agree it could be a phase but I would ask the dr to make sure they don't want to look into it further

  • Well, Ive been diagnosed with anxiety and depression. I have a huge germs phobia as well but i didnt think he would pick up these things at his age. I dont expect anything more from him besides doing normal kid things meaning im not a super strict parent just because im uncomfortable with somethings doesnt mean i want him to be... if that makes any sense. My kids have never been to daycare and im a stay at home mom. He loves to learn! I dont force anything on him what so ever. I dont want him dealing with things im going through.

  • can you get referral from ped doc to have eval?

OCD actions are in the spectrum maybe, just maybe has some
could be very normal silly 3 yr old stuff
don't make yourself crazy over it, get referral have him seen by professional therapist

kids that have aspergers are extremely intelligent but have some social issues,
ocd, personal identity and lining thing up, throwing fits=transition issues are all signs of autism spectrum

  • My daughter is 4 & does this I always correct her & say its I shut the door type thing then she corrects herself after i tell her how to say it

  • I wouldn't worry about it unless it starts to get in his way. My 3 yr old can get seriously hung up on small things too. If it gets worse or doesn't seem to be fading, discuss it with your pediatrician. If nothing else, it would give you peace of mind (or an action plan..)

  • I think it is just part of learning to talk. I would not worry.
