pure maple syrup?

so i ran into this recipe to make your own caramel instead of using the wrapped caramels, it calls for "pure maple syrup" i think you can buy this in the store but its probably too expensive. i was wondering if anyone used just regular maple syrup that you use on pancakes and such or is this not at all what im thinking?

can i subsitute regular syrup?

1 - 1lb box of dark brown sugar
1 - cup of room temparature butter
1 - 14oz can of unsweetened milk
2/3 - cup of dark corn syrup
1/3 - cup pure maple syrup
1/2 - teaspoons of vanilla extract
1 - teaspoon flavored dark molasses
1/4 - teaspoon of salt

-Skewers, popsicle sticks, or chopsticks
-Apples of your choice

Put all of the ingredients together and evenly mix and heat until the sugar dissolves and the caramel drips with a creamy buttery appeal. Once completed, dip/roll your own caramel apple varieties!

  • You can substitute regular maple flavored syrup, but the flavor of your end product will differ some.

  • Pure maple syrup is probably just thicker and would stick better. Is it worth buying it or throwing it away and starting over if it doesnt come out right?
