  • brown is always a good choice. Go lighter brown for this season. Auburn (hint of red) is also a beautiful fall color, but only a few people can pull it off. Try one of those programs that lets you see what you would look like with a different hair color. They are available for free online.

  • technically, you need to stay within 2 shades of your natural color, whether you stay in the brown range, or venture into the reds. different base-tones will look either good or bad depending on your skin color. also, if you go too much darker, you may need to color your brows a bit, too.
why don't you have a consultation with a professional colorist? you don't have to let this person color your hair, but it will give you a good start for what to look for, and what to consider when you do decide to color.

  • take some eye shadow to your face, which looks better warm or cool tones (golds or silvers).
if golds look better stick with a warmer base..
if silver looks better stick with a cooler base.

It looks like you have brown eyes, so if you have cooler based skin tones maybe some nice warmer brown or red low lights to really set the color off.

if you have warmer skin, maybe a nice darker brown that is semi warm with some warm highlights of reds or golds.
