The law in a lot of places is that the child must be 4'9" or 8 years old. My son is 7 1/2 and is in a high back booster seat and will continue to be in it until the seatbelt fits him correctly. I forsee him sitting in at least a low back booster for a few more years since he has a small build, even though he will be 8 he will not fit correctly in the seat belt.

When they all aren't in our truck they do sit in boosters. My 10yo hates it but she's the size of the average 7yo (she's 4' tall and 47lbs). My almost 9yo son uses a booster if he sits in back when the girls aren't in the truck (otherwise he sits in the middle up front--he's 4'6" and 70lbs). And my almost 8yo also sits in a booster if her sister isn't in the car (she's 4' and 54lbs).
