What is the most effective way to rid stains in children's clothing?

I have read countless forumns on natural and non-natural ways to get stains out. My MIL's mother even uses hairspray or cascade (with warm water to mix) to rid stains. Anyone have some great, timely, stain removing techniques?

  • Wash the stuff immediately. Don't let it sit around. If you can't wash it right away, at least hand-rinse it and put it in a bucket of water with a little laundry detergent in it.

  • I spray Shout! on them as soon as they change their clothes, and let it sit on the stains until I do laundry. Some stains are simply impossible to get out, so they become their new play/around the house clothes.

  • I would also suggest spray n' wash with resolve power. Even if the stain sets, it will stil come out... I don't do laundry without having that by my
