Do you allow your young child in the bathroom while you're doing your business?

I've been reading some responses on this website, and it seems a lot of moms don't allow their young children in the bathroom with them. That seems really odd. If I didn't let my 2 year old go into the bathroom with me, I wouldn't be able to keep an eye on her. Besides, she follows me there all the time! I can't hold my bladder or bowels until she is sleeping!

Any comments?

  • Girl, I have not peed by myself since 1986! Hell, I have even held a crying child on my lap while peeing because they needed consoling and I had to go!

  • Yeah, she just follows me everywhere (2yr) and every time I close the door she screams and cries the whole time...at some point she will learn, but I am prolly going to wait until she is potty trained so that there are no negative associations with the bathroom..

  • I dont really have a choice. Im a single mother of a 7yr old 3yr old and 1yr old. All boys and act like boys! So i have 2 keep an eye on me. Also my boys arent curious bout body parts either which i think is best. Sometimes my 3yr old n 1yr old even take a shower with me. N i dont have a choice 2 let them in when its that time of the month either. They dont ask questions. Not even my 7yr old.

  • I've never not allowed my almost 3-year-old son from entering the bathroom while I'm in there. I figured it will help him understand that going to the bathroom is normal and nothing to be scared/ashamed of. Plus, he loves to flush!

  • Sometimes my kids follow me in but I don't shoo them out if I'm just going pee or poo. If I'm using a tampon then I don't allow them in and I lock the door.

  • The door stays open in my house, my kids have all seen me on the toilet. I don't think it is a big deal. I make sure they are occupied if I have to do any feminine hygiene things, but other than that...who cares. Everybody Poops! Right?
