Does labor usually start

Does labor usually start with painful, irregular contractions for several hours then progress to regular contractions? Or are the contractions regular from the beginning?

  • I used to have 2-3 hour sets of regular contractions that were not the real thing. Braxton hicks can be regular for a while too. When I couldn't talk through them, I knew it was time.
