do you give your baby more formula before they go down for the night than you do normally throughout the day?

i read in a magazine that giving a 'substantial' night time bottle will help them sleep longer but wouldnt it just result in spit-up?

  • I feed my son when he wants, how ever much he takes.  He's 2 months and takes 4oz bottles and sleeps 7 hours at night already (unfortunately his "night" starts at like 7pm so he still wakes up around 3 or 4am most mornings).

If we were too try and feed him more before bed he either wouldn't take it because he's not hungry or he would scream after it because his stomach is too full and/or throw it all up and then scream.

  • my son never fell for that - he would only eat what he wanted to eat, no more no less.

  • We give the twins the same amount that they drink throughout the day. They have been sleeping anywhere from 6 - 10 hours at night and are 10 weeks old.

  • i no longer have babies....mine are 12 and 9 now....but i always gave them the same amount as i did during the day....and sometimes they wouldn't even finish the whole bottle. Once they got older though, i did start adding cereal to their night time bottle.

  • Babies should be allowed to take as much as they want with each feeding. They will naturally refuse more when they are full.

  • I breast feed, but I do notice that DD nurses longer and really fills herself up at night. Her belly sticks way out. She "snacks" throughout the day.

  • Not sure why you would want to essentially over feed your baby at night. ?????

  • no but i give her a warm bottle at night and cold bottles during the day. she loves both but the warm bottle will knock her out for 9 hours. we discovered this a month ago, she's 2 months old

  • no i just add a teaspoon of rice cereal to my sons (3 month old) bottle before bed,but he also has really bad acid reflux so it helps that too
