how to crochet a big circle?

I cant find many good videos on youtube. I'd like to crochet a circular potholder (with dc stitch), but I always get a bit confused. I've got it down up to the 3rd row where you 2 dc and 1 dc each ch around...then what? ch 3 then do the 2 dc, 1 dc again? Won't it start turning into a pocket if I do that?

I googled and these were some instructions. The last is a pattern scanned in from a book. There is no video. If you need video, I believe the second one is a video, I do not have the proper plug-ins to view it so I can't say if it is any good. Good Luck.
