How do you tell the difference between throw up (like vomiting if your sick) and just regular spit up with a 2 1/2 month old?

  • when my son spit up it was just a little here and there but when he was sick he would projectile vomit (scared the crap out of me) and it would be in a larger amount usually emptying his tummy.

  • also color. vomit will have a yellow or orange tint to it, this is from the stomach acid. spitup doesn't have stomach acid in it.

  • ohh okay good then I guess he's not vomiting!! It has a few little chunks in it but it isn't thick and it doesn't have a bad smell or color and it sure isn't projectile!! Thank you all so much!!

  • vomit is more sudden and projectile. spit up is usually more dribble down the face and usually smells just like whatever it is they just ingested.
