my husband loves to build stuff

he works in a cabinet bed making facility through the week. and gets home around 6 pm a lot of times he goes out to the shop after dinner stays out there building for like a hour or two. but weekends he is up at 6 am, in the shop comes in to eat and goes right back out. sometimes staying out until 1o pm. my girls are begging for time with him and he tells them well then come out with me for a while. he lets my oldest use a nail gun with supervision and eye protection. but the problem is they want to spend quality time with him inside and outdoors to and i do not think he understands it. how do we get him to understand without making it a federal case? i mean it is not all the time

  • enough is enough already- he cant spend that kind of time away from his family. he needs to find a better balance or his life will be like the dad in the "Cats in the Craddle" song!

  • If the girls are old enough, have a family meeting and have the girls explain to him how they need him to do other things with them. Tell him exactly what kinds of things they mean. Or have them write him a letter. Get a book about fathers and daughters. There are some really sweet ones out there. Also, have an agreement that there will be father daughter time at least twice a month (every weekend is better) and hold him to it. Write up a "contract". He is teaching them that men do not spend time with their children and they will assume that is normal and even look for that kind of man when they are older.
