You bet. I have two children, a boy and girl, and they both have chores. As soon as they were able to help around the house they had responsibilities. We started with easy stuff, like feeding the dog and moved up to mowing the yard and cooking dinner.
This is really a great learning opportunity for them. And, they are part of the family. It's a team and everyone should be contributing. They sure contribute to the mess!
We also give them an allowance. This is not payment for services rendered but income that they can use at their discretion. However, we will pay only a set amount for extra curricular activities (like camps, football etc.) They have to pay for everything else. We do not send food money or extra cash for incidentals if they go somewhere...they have to use their allowance. Also a great learning opportunity relevant to finances. They sure spend a lot less when it is "their" money.
