Can an 8 month old possibly have allergies?

It seems like every time we are around someone who is wearing perfume or in a store with fragrance counters he gets cold like symptoms.

  • Does he have dark circles under his eyes often? Those are a tell-tale sign of allergies, called allergic shiners. If you notice that he has those, even when he shouldn't be tired at all, it would be a good idea to talk with his doctor. The newer antihistamines can be given to very young children, but allow a doctor to work out the dosage according to your child's weight.

  • It's totally possible. You'll have to talk to the people you know who wear a lot of perfume and ask them to not wear it around you and your baby. If they can't or refuse to do that for your baby's health, then you should stop associating with them.

  • it is very possible. My son was tested positive for multiple allergies at 5 months including milk, soy, eggs, carrot, dogs, name it he's allergic to it! Many of his allergic reactions were overlooked by his physician (who we no longer use) and were simply brushed off because of his age. If you are suspicious of ANY changes in your baby, take them immediately to an allergy specialist!! If prolonged contact continues this could be very dangerous!

  • it could be a allergy the only way to make sure is take some of your perfume spray it on a q-tip and rub it on a small area on his arm

  • Goodness YES! My kiddo used to have food allergies (grew out of all of them by 15 months) and currently has seasonal allergies. Do talk to the pediatrician and they may refer you to an allergist. Just keep note of your baby's reactions to certain stimuli. However, it could just be the particular odor that bothers his nose. I tend to cough if there's a overly strong purfume or cleaning chemical smell! Oh - and yes, like mommiebiz said, docs sometimes will say that a child is too young - but get a second opinion. My son was tested at 7 months!
