What is a free or inexpensive anti-virus and anti-malware programs that offer live protection that aren't resourse hogs.

It was suggested on here that I use such an antivirus rather than Norton. Need suggestions!!!
Thank you.

  • I use a combination of Avira (antivirus), Spybot Search & Destroy (spyware/malware), and Windows Defender (comes with Windows). They're all free.

  • Check Cnet.com for recommendations, but due to their recommendations I installed Avast antivirus, Malwarebytes, and Super Antispyware. All of them work great!

  • We used to use AVG, but ended up with a bad virus it didn't catch. Now we use avast (it's free) and it's great. I also run malware bytes.

  • We were using Avast when we got the virus or viruses. That is why he put Norton in to clean it up.

  • If you have Internet Explorer, download Microsoft Security Essentials. It was recommended by a computer expert and it found a virus our other security programs couldn't detect.
