How many miles......

How many miles a day do you think is good to walk in order to stay in shape.

  • It depends on the rest of your day, your current cardio activity level and your body shape. For example, someone who has no current regular cardio, has a low work load and is over weight should not start with miliage but time, 10 minutes out, turn around and walk back. Somone who has no current regualr cardio but is over wieght and has a high activity daily scheduale can start with a brisk mile walk... last example, a person who is already in shape, has a hight activty day and has a cardio workout on a regular basis should look more towards a 5 mile walk or jog.

  • I run about 4-5 miles, 4-5 times a week. I have different routes depending on where I am staying, the time of day and the amount of time allotted. This works for me, but I am over 50, so what works for me might be different from what works for others.
