How many times a day is a 5 month old suspose to have a bowel movement?

LO is having one 3 times a day. Is this normal? I thought they only have one 0-2 times a day but he does 3 -4 times a day and they look normal (not runny or hard like constipating).

  • It can range from after every meal to once every other day.

  • Did you recently start solids? Are you breastfeeding or formula feeding? Any stressors in his little baby life?

All that can make a difference. 3 a day is not outrageous. Exclusively breastfed babies tend to skip days, but once you start solids they tend to poop a lot more lol. Formula fed babies usually have just one a day, but can skip a day here or there or have two in a day here and there... and also tend to poop a little more once solids are started.

As long as the poop looks normal, I wouldn't worry about it :)

  • formula solids (not until 8+ months at least), and we did just move into our new house...but yeah they look normal but I feel like he is a poop machine

  • I think it depends if they are bf, on solids, a nd how much. I'd say 2-3 would be normal.
