  • because if you let them dry to many times on their own they will start to smell bad

  • Actually, NO. Even when just bathed, your skin contains microorganisms and bacteria that can cause illness, especially left in a wet petri dish like a used towel.

  • Yes but then they are sat on the toilet or the kids drop them on the floor. Or the dog licks it or bites it. And after sitting there wet for a few days and being used a few times it starts to stink. And if not dried properly before becoming wet again it may get moldy...

Hence the reason to wash it!

  • I believe built up water can start stinking after a while plus wet plus dark plus warn hair equals mold and no one wants to dry off on moldy towels

  • Because bacteria and mildew will start to grow on a damp fabric. Its in the air - doesn;t have to come from our bodies

  • Unless you are bathing with a sandblaster, you are sloughing off dead skin cells with that towel along with the water.

  • ewe mildew. Mine stink after one use. They always go straight in the wash.

  • Mildew can grow on them if they're not washed or properly dried out. Also, they can get a musty or wet smell if used too many times.

Answer by JazzlikeMraz at 12:23 PM on Sep. 28, 2010

  • Because you still have skin cells that rub off onto the towels.

  • You still have skin cells that rub off into the towel. And plus if you let a wet towel just sit there, they will start stinking and get mildew on them! Gross.
