How many hours should my 5 day old dd sleep? SHe is sleeping around 22- 22 1/2 hours a day.

I know that they should sleep alot, but is 22 hours more than normal?> When she is awake it is only about 30- 45 min tops about 2x a day. ANy suggestions or thoughts help. Thank u.

  • it's pretty normal. if you think about all she just went through, you'd probably be sleeping tht much too. lol.

  • She will stay awake more as she gets older. It takes some time, but here in the next few weeks she should start staying awake for an hour to two hours at a time.

  • yep. sounds about DD is 10 wks and she still sleeps about 15 to 18 hrs a day

  • Just make sure if breast feeding she eats every 2-3 hrs. If gormula fed every 3-4 hrs. Make sure she has several wet and poop diapers a day. Jaundice will make babies lethargic. See your doc if her skin is red or yellow and not eating well.

  • Yes, it's normal. Use it to your advantage and get some rest too! That's the number one thing I wish I'd have done, I didn't sleep for days after my little one came home!
