Any great suggestions for traveling with a toddler?

We're flying cross country to see my folks next month by plane. Any ideas or tips welcome!

  • Be the last one to board the plane. That way you aren't sitting there any longer than necessary. Take sticker books, crayons, etc. Also, we had a magnetic puzzle book that was great. The magnets keep the pieces from falling everywhere. Bring lots of snacks, including little baggies of cereal or somethign it takes him a long time to eat and that he can hold himself. If you have a layover and before you board the plane, don't allow him to sit down. Chase him around and wear him out. Some airports have playplaces, too. Good luck!

  • We discovered color wonder markers... they don't mark on anything but the paper they come with... they also have stamps that do the same thing (only work on thier paper). We also used playdoh, the trays are perfect for playing with the playdoh.

  • OMG u need to give baby tylenol 30 mins before take off, their ears hurt so bad adjusting to the pressure.
If still in diaper I would recommend changing just before u board the plane and use a night time diaper from huggies that way if they only tinkle u wont have to change them as often as u would with a regular diaper.
Lots of snacks are good because they lose their appetites when flying.
If he is sitting on you lap u will need to buy a sandwich in the airport and bring it onto the plane because u will have no room to put down ur tray for hot food, o and bottled drinks are best so baby doesnt knock them over.

  • Try and keep baby awake as long as u can before u are on the plane that way he can sleep for most part of the flight.
Pack a small bag within a big bag that contain 1 of each item that u will need during the flight, this way on the plane u can put the small bag under the seat in front of you and u wont have to go into the storage bin to get the things u need.

  • Try keeping him awake as long as possable before the flight and he may pass out pretty quick. My kids did lol, pack alittle toy bag or maybe a portable dvd player. As long as hes busy the better he will be for you.
