Is it okay for Sarah Palin to use campaign donations to buy clothes?

The Republican National Committee has spent more than $150,000 to clothe and accessorize vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin and her family since her surprise pick by John McCain in late August.

Don't take my word for it:

  • I don't think it's wrong, but it does seem 1) disrespectful for her to represent herself as "just another hockey mom when most hockey moms couldn't begin to afford even one of her outfits and 2) disrespectful to the voters who donated that money. I'm sure they expected it to go to almost anything other than a shopping spree.

  • They approved it, so must be ok, just as ok as her using money from the Alaskan government to pay for her kids to go on trips and pay for them to stay in $700 a night hotel rooms. I don't think it is right.

  • That's pretty crappy. I heard one of her dresses cost a ton of money. I can't remember which one though. I really like Sarah because she's real. I would rather her come out in sweats than a pretty dress.

  • Well, I'm sure glad that I didn't give them any money for her to spend on designer clothes.

  • i'm sure both campaign commmittees have dealt with issues of clothing their candidates. you can't send 'em out in their regular duds if you want to win friends and influence people....not when there's cameras everywhere.

  • Isn't there something better to debate than this again?

Who's paying designer Isabel Toledo to dress Michelle Obama? Who's paying for the oufits she's been wearing to various campaign events from Calvin Klein and Chanel?

For that matter--who the hell is buying those guys' suits???

  • this is a non-issue for me but i do find it pretty alarming that she went back and changed some of the documentation for her trips.

  • Obama's campaign has paid almost half a million dollars on food! Each campaign pays for what they feel is necessary. As most people probably know there really aren't any designer clothing stores in Alaska. I am sure that the RNC just felt that Palin should look more like a VP, makes sense to me. I hope they used some of my donations to buy her a nice pair of shoes. :) Lol, maybe the $500 we donated could buy a shoe for her.

  • "A review of similar records for the campaign of Democrat Barack Obama and the Democratic National Committee turned up no similar spending."
