What is your favorite Soup/Stew for the fall/winter season??

  • Split Pea

    2 tbsp olive oil
    2 chopped onions
    2 chopped carrots
    2 crushed garlic cloves
    2 teaspoons each of oregano, basil and rosemary
    6 cups of boiling water
    2 cups of rinsed split peas

    If you have time, saute the vegetables in the oil before adding the herbs, peas and water... it adds a lot to the flavour. Otherwise, just put all of it into the pressure cooker and bring up to high pressure, lower the heat to hold it at high and cook for 15 minutes. Turn off the heat and let it sit until the lid unlocks. Serve with a splash of balsamic vinegar.

    If you don't have a pressure cooker (you could go get one ), you can just put it all into a pot, and cook on medium low until the peas are the texture you like --a little rustic or completely smooth, stirring from time to time to avoid sticking to the bottom of the pot.   • My husband's chili is the best- but sorry- I cant give out the recipe. I can just tell you there are hardly any beans in it and lots of meat. And even the kids love it!

  • Beef Stew
    Beef chunks/cubes
    1 pkg brown gravy mix add some water to the crock pot then mix in the brown gravy mix
    put into crock pot let cook all day
    then I open up my vegertables I canned and add that and it it simmer for a couple hours
    then when it's done I make a paste of flour and water not too runny not too thick and thicken up my stew
    make fresh biscuits to go with it
