is anyone here NOT a conservative or a liberal?

I get called both (derisively) on a daily basis. I'm "conservative" because I believe in capitalism and free markets, I'm against ObamaCare and socialist programs, I support welfare reform, I support our troops, repealing the civil rights act as well as racial quotas/affirmative action, and I support freedom of religion even in public schools (as well as being a Tea Party supporter). I'm "liberal" because I believe in legalizing marijuana, ending the drug war, legalizing gay/plural marriage, more funding for public schooling, less govt intervention into parenting decisions, legalizing prostitution, ending the war in Iraq, and equality for every American adult. Anyone else doesn't fit snugly into one of the two categories? Anyone else agree with the Dems on some things and the Repubs on others, and then disagree with BOTH on other issues? I can't be the only one...

  • I agree with the Dems on abortion, gay marriage, social care programs, ending the war, funding for public schools. I think the only thing I agree with the Repubs with is the death penalty.

  • No you are not the only one...I want a new political party that somehow requires integrity. I agree with your viewpoints on most issues. I had to laugh the first time some called me conservative, because in my mind I wasn't one, but like you I've got a split political personality.

  • I have VERY few conservative beliefs. I believe in the death penalty and I believe in a free market. But on everything else "oh, hell NO!!" I am pure liberal.

  • I am a moderate. Further, in my personal choices I probably lean slightly right, but would not attempt to apply the same parameters for others. For ex:

I am heterosexual, but am for equal marriage rights for all.
I have never terminated, but believe in choice for all women.
I do not partake in illegal drugs, but think they should be legalized, taxed and regulated.
I have never utilized social services, but accept that a strong system needs to be in place.
I have never been without HCI, but acknowledge that our current system is unsustainable.

  • I would have said niether but I fall more into the conservative party if I were to go only by your list. I have zero interest in legalizing dope, bigamy or hooking. Gross.

  • I don't consider myself a straight across conservative or liberal because I can align with both viewpoints and I can disagree with both. There are some things I am liberal about and some things I am conservative about.
