Which option gives the worst impression?

For a forty-something year old~ bitten down, picked nails or acrylics?
Seems like people aren't getting their nails done much anymore with the natural, shorter nail look in style now, but bitten nails for a grown up? My greatest source of shame, not being able to kick this dumb habit!

  • I just quit biting my nails after doing it my entire life. The only thing that really worked for me was putting my own acrylics on (bought a kit at Sally's beauty supply store) I found doing it myself, I didn't damage my nails as much as when I would go and get them done. Once they were grown out I took them off and used a buffer block thing to make my real nails shiny and pretty and I keep them polished nicely. They sell no-bite nail polish that tastes awful, so that may be an option for you as well!

  • I think bitten nails gives ANYONE of ANY AGE a bad impression. :( And sadly I give off that impression myself. :(

  • I like a "squaoval" shape nail. I used to bite but when I saw that I can grow my nails and they look good I stopped. Try painting with a clear coat till they grow. That way they stay hard and strong.

  • I have two younger sister and they are aways bitting their nalis. I just asked them the other day if they would bite their toe nails, they said no, I then said you might as well cause odds are your hands are as dirty if not more dirty. They just looked at me in disgust. hope that gets them to stop....

  • They make nail treatments to discourage biting nails. You should be able to find it at your local drug store or beauty supply.

  • Bitten nails look worse than acrylics.

  • I have ugly nails without bothering to bite them. They're really thin and break easily.

  • short bitten nails are unattractive yes (and yes I'm guilty of this habit myself)

I've stopped again mostly by doing my nails on a 4 day basis. The newer the paint, the more I remember not to bit. lol. My teacher (at beauty school) broke my habit once, but after my papa died and we did acrylics in school, I admit i went back to my old habit.

But.. acrylics when they are off, can be a lot uglier than bitten nails.
