  • My parents bought my oldest child's car for him 4 years ago. He still has it even though it was used and is now 20 years old.

  • 6 months after i got my drivers license my mom bought a car for herself and I got her old one, I was responsible for my insurance, gas, oil changes, tires and minor repairs.

  • No. But we sold them what we had for a price. You have to buy your own car to feel the joy and take care of it. In my opinion.

  • My mom didn't buy me a car. I didn't get my car until college...and I bought one for $600 w/ some of my tuition money. I've gotten a newer model used car since. I'll probably give that to my son & if he's old enough to work, I'll require him to work to pay for the insurance or modifications (paint job, etc.)

  • We bought our daughter a used car and put it on our insurance. She had to pay her portion of the insurance which was $80 and pay for gas, oil changes etc

  • They could use our cars and if they wanted their own they had to earn the money to pay for it.....which they did.

  • no, I will not buy my kids a car. They will have to earn it just like I did.
I will help them as needed but I wont just outright buy if for them.
Where is their sense of pride or ownership?

A lot of kids now days have such a sense of entitlement it scares me.
