  • we live in a med cost area (high for mo) and we would do just fine with what he makes, or even a little less and no pa at all. we've been blessed. he makes in the teens and it's plenty for our little family. i'm a full time student

  • We would have needed over $100K a year for me to be a full time SAHM. I've worked since my son was 2. I've also been a single mom since he was 5. And I make over $100K myself now. And yes, we live where the cost of living is mid-high.

  • We live in a lower cost of living area. My husband makes $42,000 a year and we live comfortably. We clip coupons, look for sales and we don't indulge in the extras...going out dinner, brand new cars, etc.

  • We live in a low-med cost of living area. For me to be a permanent stay at home mom, my husband would need to make about $50,000 a year.

  • For us to live and pay our bills effectively my husband has to make at least 100k a year...we live in a very poor area so he works out of town..I have been a full time sahm since my sd was 7 and shes now 13..

  • The easy answer is 120% of your expenditures. The actual dollar amount depends on where you live and how much you spend. The sad fact is that no matter how much is made, the expenditures will adjust to the income and you will never be able to afford staying at home unless it is pre-planned and the plans are written in stone.

But for me, personally, he would need to make $135,000 without benefits and maybe $90,000 with excellent benefits. Our health insurance alone is about $700 per month, not including the $5,200 deductible per person.
