tanning during pregnancy

this is just a question but ive been told different stories and was wondering if anyone knows for certain which is correct...at a tanning salon they said they could legally let pregnant women tan bc its the heat not the uv rays that cause the problem...so if youre pregnant and go in a stand up bed or a bed that hasnt been ran like in the morning or we as long as it isnt above a certain temp your fine you just need a drs note...ive personally know 2 women who have their whole pregnancy and the babies were fine, but then ive been told its dangerous and not to even think about doing it, i havent bc im more of a better safe than sorry type im just curious to know is it okay or not?

  • Here is an interesting article explaining why it's not safe. It has to do with the body temperature raising and the loss of folic acid from UV rays http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/19904/tanning_beds_are_unhealthy_for_pregnant.html?cat=52

  • Tanning is not really safe when you're not pregnant, I definitely wouldn't chance it while I was pregnant.

  • im just about 36 wks now, im not go to tan now i wouldnt pregnant bc i have had 4 mc and although now i know why i had that many i still wont risk it i was just wondering, i will tan after she comes, but thats bc i have struggled w depression( caused by a gene defect) its worse in the winter and ive done light therapy that helps, so do it like once or twice a week for the vit d and it makes me feel better whether its just in my head or being tan helps idk but either way its in moderation...anyways they really shouldnt allow any pregnant women to tan just based on the fact you lose that folic acid! scary...thanks all for your answers
