Salt Pentacles?

Background: Today my sister and our kids went to a hiking trail in our town. It is out in a wooded area beside the river. Not many people are there at once. Traffic is minimum. There is an old abandoned mill on the other side of the river that is rumored to be haunted. There are renovations and rebuilding being done a little at a time. The old mill is being transformed into a church. There are some very large rocks that you can walk out on where people fish, picnic etc with a nice view of the back of the mill on the other side. There is a dam there and it is very beautiful place. We only passed a few people while we were there the entire time.

Today we saw a pentacle in salt on the rock. My question: Is a salt pentacle special? What does it symbolize? What could the people there have been doing and why in a public area? I am curious.

  • Well, both Pentacles and Salt are used by any variety of belief systems and practices... So saying what THOSE specific ones are or were being used for is difficult. However, chances are it would have been some form of cleansing or protection, seeing how you mentioned the area has a history and both salt & pentacles are used for those purposes... It could have also been a blessing of some kind...

  • A pentacle of salt is a protective circle for Wiccan rituals.

  • Pentacles are part of the Wiccan rituals. The salt is Earth and connected to the Goddess. It is not a bad thing just a blessing for those who follow that faith

  • Sabrina is right. Also someone from an Earth based path could have been making holy water. We like to gather water from bodies of water and do a blessing on the spot.

  • Thank you ladies for your insight. I was just guessing that since salt was involved it had something to do with purification but did not want to assume without speaking to someone who might know for sure.
