Sewing machine needle question... adult content

I am currently using a needle for my machine that says, 80/12 on the container because it was suggested for the project. Well I was thinking the 12 means it is for the weight of the material I am using which is cotton.
But am I right?
And what does the 80 mean?

  • the 80 is the european size number. Lower number (8) lightest higher numbers heavier fabric (19) or 60-120 if using euro numbers
