Can you scan school pictures to make more, or is that illegal?

I don't want to buy a bunch of school pictures, I would rather buy the smallest package and if I need more for family members I could scan them and make more.

  • Lots of people do that- dont know about the legalities, but since you paid for pics, they are yours. Besides, you are giving them to friends & family, so I dont think they will turn you in! :)

  • Yep, Illegal..I thought of doing that very same thing. But, if you look on the back...It's copyrighted

  • Yeah unfortunately it's illegal...DH and I met when we both worked at a copy/print shop, and we used to get people asking for color copies of school photos all the time. It was frustrating and embarrassing because they would get so angry when we told them it was illegal to make any type of reproduction of a copyrighted work!

  • It's illegal but I'm pretty sure a lot of people still do it. Shouldn't you, no.

  • It is illegal, but a lot of schools have them online now so you can share them online and relatives can order their own. That may be an option if people want more than you want to buy.
