  • 1 cup Butter or margarine
    1 1/2 cups Powdered sugar
    1 Egg
    1 tsp Vanilla extract
    1/2 tsp Almond extract
    2 cup Flour
    1/2 cup finely ground almonds
    1 tsp Baking soda
    1 tsp Cream of tartar
Cream together butter and sugar. Add the egg, vanilla extract and almond extract, mixing well. Add flour, almonds, baking soda and cream of tartar, mixing until smooth. Chill dough for 3 hours. Roll out to approx. 1/4" thickness. Cut dough into desired shapes with cookie cutters. Sprinkle with colored sugars before baking, if desired. Bake on greased baking sheets for 7 to 8 minutes at 375 degrees F.

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
    1/4 teaspoon salt
    1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 stick (1/2 cup) unsalted butter (if you only have salted, use it and omit the salt)
    1 cup sugar
    1 large egg
    2 tablespoons milk
1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract (I use Penzey's double strength)
Cream butter & sugar, then add egg, milk, and vanilla. Combine dry ingredients with a whisk (so there are no lumps of baking powder), then add to the butter mixture. Mix just until combined. Chill 1 hour, then roll and cut into desired shape.
