How can I relax enough to go to sleep?

I have been super high strung all day..Dinner was done and dishes washed by 6 pm. normally I'm just starting at 6 pm! I have been on hyper speed all day and still want to go-go-go-go......What can I do to calm down? I need to be in bed at a decent time so I can be up early.....

  • Try listening to some calm music or what about some chamomile tea?

  • Chamomile tea or possibly doing some stretching/yoga/pilates. Prayer's good. Read a book while listening to some classical music. Take a few deep breaths and let it out slowly while trying to clear your mind. If you have a hobby, try doing a little of that if it's possible.

  • A warm bath with epsom salt usually helps me. If I really think I'm gonna have trouble sleeping, I take a melatonin. I get the chewable peppermint tablets from Trader Joe's. They work like a charm, with no side-effects and no narcotic or habit-forming.

If you're keyed up with thoughts of things you have to do tomorrow, it sometimes helps to write it all down first. Then you can sleep knowing you won't forget anything. When I was working, I would even leave myself voice mail messages with 'to do' items I didn't want to forget. It sounds crazy, but once I knew I wouldn't forget, I could let it go long enough to get some sleep. :-)

  • I agree, a nice warm soothing bath will help-NO soda or coffee, though
