Canker sore...Help!

how do I get rid of these things. DD is 3. She has it on her lip and will barely eat anything. I hate seeing her in pain.

  • If it's a canker sore (which are usually on the inside of the mouth) you can swish some salt water. If it's on the outside of the lip, it might actually be a cold sore - that's caused by the Herpes virus and will just have to run its course. You can buy over the counter topical analgesics to relieve the pain and there are some medications (Abreva is one) that will help to dry it up and heal a little quicker.

  • See her doctor. Usually you just have to let them go away on their own but the ped might be able to tell you something.

  • mix some benadryl with pepto bismol and let her use it as a gargle and rinse about 3 times a day. You can use tylenol or motrin for the pain, and encourage her to eat raisins. Raisins for some reason, heal mouth sores.

  • does it look like it could use some drying help to get rid of it?

    most times around here....we use Athlete's Foot Cream or ointment cause we deal with cold sores a lot. this is what you put on the outside of your not digest.

  • a salt water mouth rinse is very good for mouth sores, you might also consider chloroseptic mouth spray, spray on before she eats, it will help with the pain...thats what I would do....
