CarSeat expiration dates?

I was dropping my son off at school today and another mother was talking about taking her infant car seat to Babies R Us to get it recertified since it has expired and she is due next month... Has anyone heard of this? Can you get a car seat recertified after expiration date?????

  • nope, once it is expired it is expired and needs to be disposed of. there is no way to "recertify" an expired seat

  • You can get an installation certification, but once they are over 6 yrs old they are expired. Its because the plastics photo-degrade meaning that the heat and sun that hit the car degrade the plastics in the seat and compromise their integrity.

  • Expired is expired.

  • tell her to think of it this way... you can't "recertifiy" expired milk or eggs...

  • No. They might be doing a trade in event at BRU where she can bring the old one and get a percentage off a new one. Could that be what she is talking about?
