Anyone interested in an inexpensive make-it-yourself gift idea?

For my daughter's first christmas (almost a year old) I made homemade maracas (shakers) for her. I bought some colored sand w/glitter in it and poured inside empty baby juice bottles (the little ones that are small enough for the babies to hold in their hands). I filled each bottle to a different level so when she shook them, they each sound a little different. I peeled the labels off the bottles so she can see the sand inside, and stuck the caps back on with gorilla glue so there won't be any spills. My family thought I was nuts, but a year later, those little cheap homemade toys are still her favorite!!

  • I made Lydia something like that to play with a while back. I took some soda bottles, filled one with beads, one with rice, one with ribbons..ect. She loves them!! My parents were like "Can't you go buy her some toys?" But why, when she loves these so much, right??
