How many of you let your baby sleep on their belly?

Our daughter is almost a month old.....Lately, she will NOT sleep more than 15 minutes at a time...unless she is sleeping her belly to our chest. So, my husband and I wait until she is sound asleep before we put her in her bassinet on her back...As soon as we do that....she's up and fussing. SO, today I put her in the Moby Wrap and she fell sound asleep within minutes. I have her sleeping in her crib on her belly. She is SOUND asleep still after 45 minutes. I know at the hospital they told us not to put her on her belly unless we watch her. I swear I've checked on her about 20 times. She is so sound asleep, I had to put my hand on her back to make sure she is breathing. When she is on her back, she sounds like a pig grunting and breathing crazy. I don't have anything else in the crib with her. She is not yet rolling over, but has pretty good head control. She can completely pick up her head when she is on her belly.

  • I never did. Did you try swaddling her while she is on her back?

  • At one month old I would just turn her back over. Once my daughter was able to roll her self over I let her sleep how she wanted....

  • My son hated being swaddled and hated sleeping on his back. He would roll to his side, rest, then roll to his tummy, even as early as a month old. When our doctor was told this, he said as long as he could hold his head up when on his tummy, he would be fine. He is now three years old and still a tummy sleeper, like his mommy.

  • I did with my first. It was the only way she would sleep. My second she slept on her back. Till she could roll.

  • I always put my son on his back until 3 months when he could roll over himself. The risks were just too much for me. Try positioning her on her side. She may like that too. My son did :)

  • DD slept on her tummy or in a Moby for the first 3 months. Now she is a back sleeper.

  • I would say keep her on her back until she is at least 3 months old. My first baby had to sleep on his belly or sitting he slept in a carrier/car seat until 3 months when the doc said it was ok to put him on his stomach. What about swaddling?
