Does taking folic acid increase chances of conceiving?

Or does it just decrease the chance of giving birth to a child with defects?

  • It helps decrease your chance of your already concieved baby developing spinal cord abnormalities, (which would develop in the first 18 days). Thats why it's so important to take folic acid before you start trying to have a baby because those abnormalities develop before you even know you're pregnant.

  • folic acids are great to help decrease chances of deformity while pregnant.

It increases fertility for men though, not so much women.
