The first thing that comes to my mind, is that I was a latchkey kid from 7 on. I came home and let myself in, ate the snack she made and watched tv from the time I go out of school until my older brothers would come home from whatever sport they were playing. and when I was 9 I was also in charge of making sure my baby brother got home (he if 4 years younger) and I watched him.
I am glad that I knew how to be responsible, but I wouldnt do that to my kids. (that is why i pushed so hard to stay home)

Right now there isn't anything really that I can think of that my kids can't do. They have all the same freedoms I had (running around our neighborhood, go to and from friends' houses, going to the park down the street, etc). My boundaries when I was their age was about 3 blocks around our street. We live in a little subdivision and they are allowed to go all over this small section of it. When they get older (my oldest is 10) they will be allowed farther out.
