Marijuana...Should it be Legalized anything other than Medical Use?

The state of CA is trying to legalize it as social drug. It is believed that if controlled less children will have acess and the drug dealers will be put out of business and the increase state revenue. They say that it is no worse than alchol. In fact, it is less lethal in many aspects. Many states have legalized it for medicinal purposes and some have the law if caught with it your are only fined but not jailed (similar to a speeding ticket). What are your opinions on this and should the remainder of the 49 states follow suit?

  • I'd like to know why it's illegal.

Physically, it causes less harm than tobacco and alcohol. It is less addictive than tobacco.

Sure it changes the way your mind works, but so does alcohol.

  • Yep... Keeping it illegal doesn't inhibit use in any way. Legalize it, tax it, put it under laws similar to Alcohol and allow people to make their own choices...

  • Yes, I think it should be legalized. I have never tried it. I am just tired of the government trying to control everything. I worked in a drug counseling clinic for 3 years. Marijuana is not that harmful and it doesn't lead to stronger drugs. Marijuana has it useful applications even now and it makes hemp which has many more usefull applications. It is really not that different than tobacco. So legalize it and tax it like cigarettes.

  • Yeah, legalize it and watch employers scramble trying to figure out how to explain to the insurance company how their employees failed a drug test after an accident, but the company and employees still shouldn't be held liable. If you want it legal, you need a cheap and accurate test to prove WHEN you smoked it. If you don't have one, company insurance just got a whole lot more expensive. Wonder how they'll pay for that? Oh yeah, fire people and raise prices. OR, just start drug testing regularly and firing all the employees who fail. Insurance company doesn't care if you smoked it Friday after work or Monday morning on break. All they care is if you can pass the drug test on Monday afternoon.

  • Personally, i have no problem with it being legal. Consenting adults should be allowed to consume whatever they want. However, as usual, NP has a good point.

but they don't test people for alcohol usage, and they really should in some cases....would they still test for pot if it was legal?
