dd's pee REAKS! adult content

last week we went to Mich to see my mom and grandparents. this is when DD's pee started to stink really really bad. i mean like roaches probly wouldn't even want to be near it. it's so bad. i'm wondering what could be the cause? i keep her hydrated...i bought cranberry juice, but it was the cocktail one, i couldn't find 100% cranberry anywhere. will the 100% cranberry work, or is there anything i can do or should i call the doctor? she's 2 btw...dh thinks it was the water in MI, but i'm not sure. ds's smelt like it just the other day, but that was the one time he peed in his pull up while asleep, during the day he's potty trained, and i don't smell anything when he goes potty...

  • I would just say lots of water. If that's her only symptom it is most likely linked to something she ate or drank or that she is burning off more than she's drinking... Just up her water & she should be fine...

  • Maybe she had asparagus. That makes your pee stink something awful!

  • Make sure she is clean thoroughly after going pee. Don't let her sit in a wet pullup too long. It could also be what she is drinking or eating or she has a UTI or bladder infection.

  • Could be something she ate, nerves/hormones or she could have a UTI. Ocean Spray Cranberry Juice has the highest content of straight cranberry. If it continues much longer you should definately contact a dr.

  • lol no she didn't have an asparagus. thanks, i'll up her water (is flavored water ok?) i do make sure i wipe her good after i take her pull up off, and i don't let her sit in her pee forever lol. i'm hoping it's not a bladder infection, if it was a UTI wouldn't she be in pain?

  • Certain foods can make your pee stink more. There is no %100 cranberry. You're probably thinking of the %100 juice cranberry, in which it sweetened with grape juice instead of sugar. If you think it's her bladder, giver regular cranberry. Also, try making them drink plain old water. At least 3 times a day. It's very imortant that kids get used to water. If it is not given to them when young, they will get used to it & never drink it which is horrible. Everyone needs to drink water. In my home, DD has to drink a glass of water FIRST. If she finishes all her water, she can have juice or milk. I let her have OJ in the morning & a 1-2 glasses of milk a day. But, but if she asks for more than that, she has to drink water first. Her pee is very clear & not smelly at all & i really think it's because she drinks so much water.

Try lots of water first. If that doesn't help, then you will know it's internal & not lack of water.

  • flavored water is not OK. Kids need to drink plane water, not that flavored crap. If they drink flavored crap, then they'll always expect their beveregaes to be sweet. It would be a really good idea to get them used to plain water. Also, that flavored crap has sugar or fake sugar in it which makes pee smell worse, because sugar creates more yeast in the body. They need plain water & you should try real hard to give it to them as much as you can. Kids only need 1 glass of juice a day, no more. If they drink more than that, they are getting way to much sugar in their little bodies.

  • yeah my kids love water, they have 2 cups of milk a day, for breakfast and dinner, juice for lunch/snack. in between all that they get water. i'll definitely up her water intake, water down her juice too. when she turned 2 a couple of months ago i stopped watering it down for her, now i only do it every now and then. she did have alot of water on our trip, it was easier for me to pour water from mine or my sister's bottle to her sippy in the car, than having to reach for the juice and pour that in there.

  • could be UTI or yeast infection. I would call my doctor to be sure. And yes keep her hydrated with lots of water. UTI's don't always have to be painful, nor do yeast infections. Do you notice any discharge?
