could this be a sign of an ear infection

my 3 year old daughter woke up last night around 1 am saying her ear hurt and she kept itching it she was crying but no tears were comming out and she kept waking up i gave her some motrin and that helped for an hr after that she kept waking up til 6 she hasnt woke up yet but i dont know if i should take her to the er or not she hasnt had an ear infection since she was a baby ofcourse she had tubes put in i dont remember the signs if anyone can help thanks

  • My son was very prone to ear infections, so sounds like the same symptoms he has.
    Take your daughter to the Dr. They can tell you for sure. Ignoring this can cause ear damage or hearing loss if it really is an infection and not taken care of. Best to catch them early.

    After the child turns 5 years old, the ear canal tends to change shape just a little and children are less prone to infections.

  • It sounds like it could be, but treating an ear infection doesn't always help. 80% of ear infections will heal properly on their own and taking antiniotics for them usually only help the infection clear up one day sooner.

    If she gets a fever, let her keep it a little while to try to battle the infection itself. If she becomes more uncomfortable, just give her more motrin.

    Call your doctor to be safe.

  • ok thanks it was an ear infection i took her to the er and she got drops for the pain and antibiotics thanks to all who answered
