  • At 21 months we are still doing both. No reason to stop breastfeeding just because they are drinking cows milk!

  • I would say after they are one transition to cow's milk.. but I read an article that said the world health organization recommends children to be breastfed at least the age of two. I would do what is comfortable to you tho.. It is your body and your child. You know what is best.

  • Well, he was on formula because I couldn't keep up with his need (but that's another story, lol), but he was a year old before we switched him to cow milk. :)

  • My older son started cows milk (in addition to my milk) at age 2. His brother is 18 months and will get cows milk on occasion (once or twice a month?), but still mostly my milk. I figured he'll transition over the next year or two.

  • @ 13 months I started having his sitter mix rice milk, cows milk and breast milk in his sippy cup. It took about a week and half before he was on no BM at the sitters. We still nurse at home. I'll nurse as long as he wants to but I am done pumping!

  • We started mixing the two at 11 months so they were completely on cow's milk by 1, but most drs recommend no cow's milk until at least 1 year.

  • Humans don't need to drink cow's milk. No baby under 12 mo should get any cow's milk. If you decide to give your child any milk products they can get their 2 toddler size servings a day from foods they eat. Toddlers love foods made from milk. Milk constipates, causes other digestive problems, is associated with other health problems and obesity. Toddlers can drink water.

I breastfed all my kids beyond the recommended 2 years. My children are now adults and have never had a glass of milk. My 24 mo grandson is breastfeeding and never drinks milk. He loves cheese. He drinks kefir and eats yogurt and foods made with milk.

  • We haven't, yet. She's almost 14 months and still nurses at least 4 times a day. When she starts cutting back to once or twice a day, then I will add cow's milk at meal times. Possibly. I have suspicion that she may be lactose intolerant, so maybe she won't get cows's milk, but another milk. Goat, almond, etc.
