How lone before Tyelnol should work?

My 2yr old is sick and has a fever with some other not so good symptoms. It was 102.8 an hour ago and we gave him tylenol, now it's at 103.5. Shouldn't he be cooling down by now?

  • Yes, it should....put him in a tepid bath and see if you can get it to come down that way....also a dose of ibuprofen since he's already had tylenol.....if this doesn't work, take him to emergency room...or call doctor....

  • Usually after an hour... are you sure you gave him the right dose? The doses on the bottle can be too low for their weight if they on the top range of the chart.
He could have motrin too, which is much better for fevers than Tylenol

  • He actually had motrin and we gave him 5ml (per doctors orders). His fever was at 102.8 when we gave him the motrin and an hour later it was up at 103.5. Than at the 4 hour mark (alternating tylenol and motrin) he was up at 104.7. An hour after the tylenol, he went down but only to 103 so far.

  • i'd do a lukewarm bath to try to cool him off, but make sure he doesn't get chilled. chills will cause the body to heat up and raise his temp! have you called the doc again and/or thought about taking him to the er?

  • His temp has gone down to 102.1. That is teh lowest it has been all day. We haven't called the doctor again, they said to see how it goes tonight and bring him in tomorrow if he wakes up with it. But he is feeling better. He still has the fever but he is a little more perky now and playing. (now he is finally in bed asleep though)
