what is the avarage age for a little girl to start her cycle?

My daughter has complained about lower tummy pains/cramps. I think she is too young but anything seems to be starting younger now a days. Thank you for all of y'all's help.

  • It use to be 12-14 but now days everything with the development of young chlidren, especially girls, seems to begin sooner. The youngest I've heard of so far is 10.

  • Every female is different. 10 - 14 is about the average age.

  • how old is she? I was only 10, started gettiing pimples at 9, mood swings at 8.
I'd get prepared, kinds are starting earlier and earlier.
if she doesn't know about menstrual cycles, please tell her quickly so she isn't frightened!

  • Wow, I was almost 16. Thank god I missed the early boat.

To OP, how old were you? There is an indication of girls following close to their moms age.

  • I was 11 when I got mine.. DD is almost 11 now, and she hasn't started. Her Dr thinks it's coming though, because of mood swings, and the age when I got mine. I've also heard when they're around 100lbs.

  • I was 12 and I felt like I was on the late side at the time. I think now the average is 9-11.

  • I don't think the 100lb thing is right. I was 100 at 13. I didn't start until almost 16.

Answer by BradenIsMySon at 11:31 AM on Oct. 11, 2010

  • Anywhere from 11 to 15, but I have heard of some starting sooner or even a little later than that.

  • Thank you all for your comments. She is about to turn 9 & heavy on the mood swings. But I am getting her ready because when I started my mom had not talked to me & I was so freaked out. I don't want my baby going through that.
