  • You'll have to get a convertible seat that will still rear-face until he's at least a year old and 20 lbs. We use the Evenflo Triumph Advance. We love it. We actually have two, one for our forward-facing preschooler, and another for our rear-facing toddler.

  • You can get a convertable seat. I recommend joining the Car Seat Safety group. They have a lot of good information about different seats.

  • Get a convertible. Most can be rear-facing for up to 35 lbs. Keep your child rear facing as long as possible, because it makes a HUGE difference in their safety. Check out this video:
If you want a cheap one that's gotten good safety ratings, try the Cosco Scenera, which is available at Target. We bought a Recaro, which is very nice, and Britax is another brand that makes a great convertible seat. Do some research to see what will work best for you guys.
FYI, by law, your child is required to be rear facing for at least 1 year, REGARDLESS of weight.
